On Tuesday, Feb. 17, the Ladykat soccer teams hosted the Caney Creek Lady Panthers. Both the JVA and Varsity came out with great wins. The JVA got behind 1-0 early in the second half, but came back strong and finished the game on top 3-1. This places the JVA in 3rd place in district behind College Station and A&M Consolidated.
In the varsity game, sophomore Katelyn Barry started the scoring in just the 10th minute and then junior Kennedi Oxner followed with her goal in the 30th minute (assisted by senior Hailey Akin). Then in the second half, junior Sarah Dean followed up on a goalkeeper deflection and scored the 3rd and final goal for the Ladykats The defensive lineup of sophomore Destiny Haliburton, sophomore Lizbeth Lopez, junior Shea Davis, and junior Kennedi Oxner, along with sophomore goalkeeper Alex Clark were virtually impenetrable throughout the entire game only allowing the Lady Panthers 7 shots on goal.
The Ladykats travel to College Station on Friday to begin their second half of district. During the first round, the Ladykats fell to College Station at home by a narrow 1-0 margin. They will then return home next week to match up against A&M Consolidated and Bryan Rudder (both at 4:30/6:30).
