The competition is entered by recordings and was part of the band’s attendance at the Music for All Festival in Indianapolis, Indiana in March 2017. The Willis High School band is under the direction of Chris Allen and Andrew Hicks.
Chris Allen, director of bands, said the award came as an awesome surprise. “We had such a great experience in Indy, and we are thrilled to have our students recognized further for their success.”
The competition is put on by The Foundation for Music Education. This year, 278 musical ensembles in the nation entered the competition. The top quarter are selected as National Winners, and the second quarter receive Commended Honors. All the groups will receive recorded and written comments from the adjudicators, and also a compilation recording of the performances of the National Winners.
