Girl's Wildkat Powerlifting Team Compete in Division 1, Region 4 Powerlifting Championship

Yesterday the Girl's Wildkat Powerlifting Team competed at the Division 1, Region 4 Powerlifting Championship at Beaumont West Brook High School. This is the first time in 10 years that Willis has had more than 1 girl qualify for the regional competition.

In the girl's 220+ weight class Melanie McVay started the day in 9th place and finished in 7th with personal bests in squat (300 lbs) and dead lift (275 lbs).

In the girl's 148 weight class Skyler Thames retained her top qualifying spot to become the region 4, division 1 champion. Skyler also became the first girl in Wildkat Powerlifting history to win her weight class at the regional meet and the 1st to qualify for the girl's state powerlifting meet.

The girl's state powerlifting championship will be held on March 20th in Corpus Christi. Skyler will be competing against 5A girls in the state of Texas in her weight class.

WHS Wrestling Team Competed in the Region III 5A Wrestling Championship

This weekend Willis took 5 wrestlers to the Region III 5A Wrestling Championships in Cypress. Paiton Sangster (So.), Grace Atkinson (Sr.) and Jonathan Jones (So.) all competed tough but failed to qualify for the state meet.
Freshman Tiffany Cherry wrestled extremely well and secured a 5th place finish and will move on to the state tournament as an alternate. Junior captain, Carson Dyer, had a great tournament, pinned his first 3 opponents, and placed 2nd when the dust settled. Dyer qualified for the Texas State Wrestling Championships that will take place this weekend in Garland. CONGRATULATIONS WILDKATS!!!!!
