Bad Weather Make Up Days Feb 17th and April 7th

Willis, TX, Jan 31, 2014– Willis ISD will make up the two missed days of instruction due to the recent bad weather on Monday, February 17, 2014 and Monday, April 7, 2014. Both days were originally scheduled to be holidays for students and professional development for staff.

“Our students missed two days of classroom instruction and we feel it is essential to make up those days at times that will most positively impact student learning,” stated WISD Superintendent Tim Harkrider.

Great News from our Cheerleaders

Seniors, Taylor Lowry and Samantha Maddin were awarded scholarships from the Cheer Booster Club last night at the cheer banquet. Taylor has been a cheerleader for two years. Samantha has been a cheerleader for all four years and captain for two years. Way to Go WildKat Power Lifting Team

We would like to congratulate Skyler Thames and Dante Woods on being the boy's and girl's representatives for Willis High School in the region 4, division 1 regional powerlifting competition. To qualify for the regional meet an athlete has to have a top 10 total in their weight class. Both of these athletes have competed against well over 200 other competitors in a region that spans from us, to Katy, down to Galveston, and back to the Beaumont area.

Skyler will be competing on Thursday at Westbrook High School in Beaumont and Dante will be competing on Saturday at Mayde Creek High School in Katy

WHS UIL Team takes 3rd Place at Wildkat Invitational

The WHS UIL team won 3rd overall at the Wildkat Invitational held at Willis High School January 18th, 2014. The annual meet drew 14 schools and over 350 students competing in events including writing, speaking and other varied academic contest. The event was staffed with volunteers from all over WISD and raised scholarship money for Willis UIL students.

Helping Others

WHS Sophomore Cheerleader, Madison McVay, organized a donation drive for Operation Christmas Child through Samaritan's Purse International Relief. She asked her fellow Willis High School cheerleaders and mascots to participate by filling a "shoe box" with gifts for children around the world. Thirty-two boxes were delivered by Madison to Operation Christmas Child representatives. Thank you Madison!

The WHS National Honor Society put on their annual Wax Museum the week of Dec. 9, 2013. Each NHS inductee researched a character, developed a costume, and put on the display for all campuses in the district. Click on the headline above to see a photo album.

Winning Commitments

WHS teacher Gayle McKenney and the staff of "Voice of the Wildkats" wrapped up the first Celebrate My Drive campaign which focused on keeping teens safe on the road. John Crenshaw of State Farm collected donations and door prizes were awarded to students who committed to safe driving. While the school may not win a grant, it was a great effort for a good cause.

Congratulations to 5 of our Wildkat Choir Members who advanced at the District choir auditions at Conroe High School. Three of our advancing students ranked in the top 10 indicating great future placement in Region and Area competitions. Sing big Wildkats!
