Ivan Velasco

I am honored to serve the Willis ISD community in the capacity of assistant principal at Willis High School. I joined the Willis High School administrative team August of 2016, and I am fired up about continuing to humbly serve our students this school year.

I attended the University of Houston where I received my undergraduate degree in May of 1997 and my Master of Education degree in May of 2000. I later attended Sam Houston State University where, in May of 2011, I received my Doctorate of Education in Educational Leadership.

I taught bilingual education in elementary grades in Conroe ISD and Tomball ISD while also teaching education courses to aspiring teachers seeking teaching certification through ESC-Region IV. In Conroe ISD I also served 3 years as elementary assistant principal and 8 years as Elementary Principal. For two years prior to coming to Willis ISD, I served the students, parents and the Huntsville community as principal of Huntsville Intermediate. The next two years I served as Middle School principal in Willis ISD and I am now serving as assistant principal at Willis High School.

I am blessed to be married to my beautiful wife Adriana, who has blessed me with two wonderful sons, Ivan and Adrian, and my beautiful and loving daughter Karinna.

My passion is to provide opportunities for students to succeed by instilling in them a deep love for life-long learning. I believe that a positive and respectful school climate that nurtures and values each child is conducive to high academic engagement, profound learning and long term academic success.

I look forward to working with students, parents, community members, and Willis High School faculty and staff to lead our students to success. I will continue to focus on helping students develop socially, emotionally, and academically and helping learn to be respectful, responsible, and committed to their own success.
